College is coming! With Covid-19 restrictions many schools are starting earlier than ever. Move-in schedules have been pushed up and it’s time to take a look at your check list.
Whether you are relocating to campus or taking classes remotely, here are a few ideas to help you get college-ready.
Here at LeighDeux our goal is to help you make a smooth transition.
Basic Dorm Design
If you are moving onto campus, dorm assignments come out by early July at most schools and many even sooner.
Whether you have a roommate or a single, dorm rooms come with basically the same furniture…and trust us, it is not attractive.
Obviously you’ll have your bed, as well as a dresser, side table, storage space, and desk! But it’s up to you to make it your own.
That’s where the fun comes in... and LeighDeux can help you be the envy of your floor!
Where can I find my dorm details?
Go the housing section of your school’s website. There you can find basic floor plan with layouts for the various dorm buildings. Certain schools provide more information than others, but you can always contact campus housing for window and closet specs, for example, if those cannot be located online.

Your Design Plan
Make sure your dorm room suits YOU. Create a space that is comfortable and functional.
Start with the bed!
It is the anchor of your space. Consider the amount of time you will be sitting on your bed. It’s a lot! White is probably not be the best choice… denim and dark colors bleed onto white fabrics. Choose some color for your bedding… it hides dirt and will bring some cheer to your room!
Add a headboard pillow.
Lighter and softer than a traditional headboard, it will give you the finish of a traditional headboard with far more comfort…and it fits easily into your car! LeighDeux invented this product and our fabric choices are the best! It comes in both twin and queens sizes.
Throw on Some Pillows!
Mix and match pattern and texture with throw pillows.
Add a Bed Skirt!
Lofting your bed? Yep! Add a bed skirt! This will hide all the stuff under your bed and give your room a finished look. Our curtain call bedskirts run on a tension rod and open and close like a curtain to provide easy access under your bed.
Like to study on the floor? Grab a floor pillow to get comfy.
Need extra seating? Our bean bags and cubes come in tons of fabrics and prints and can double as a little side table too.
Want to coordinate your bathroom? We offer shower panels and towels in all of our signature prints!
Divide & Conquer
If you have a roommate it's a good idea to get together and decide who brings what. Many items can be shared and the last thing you need is duplication in such a small space.
Enjoy the Process
Your dorm room may be the first space you decorate on your own. Make it fun, make it functional and make it reflective of you! It’s your home away from home.
